You've got this slightly wrong. Buying clubs never want the value of their bids to be public knowledge. That's a negative for them. It not only tells other clubs how much a certain player is going for so that they can come in and outbid you, it also tells other clubs how much money you're willing to spend on a certain player.

On the other hand, selling clubs and agents are usually the ones leaking figures. Selling clubs want others to know that said player is valued more than the bid and agents want to incite a bidding war for their clients because they make more money the higher the transfer fee.

No doubt you are right about prices but bids is deffo something that is kept under wraps much.

Managers all the time refuse to give out information regarding names of clubs and prices that was bid. If you look at arnatovic from stoke to west ham, it was public from the start and no other clubs mentioned. Everton, palace, leicester and many more would have enquired and places bids. IMO though if a player expresses a wish to go to a club it becomes very public and only 1 teams bids are mentioned.

But to go back to the original posters question, we will probably never find out if he signs for us if anyone else was in for him but its highly likely we are a number of clubs wanting him.

Yeah, clubs are quite secretive. They never want information to be public unless it helps serve their agenda. Agents on the other hand, they are duplicitous bunch and you should never believe a word they say.

So much for the reports I read earlier (somewhat spurious) that Lemar wanted the deal done today before they play PSG.

MONACO want Arsenal to make a higher offer for their winger Thomas Lemar, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

(...)

"Despite Monaco's insistence that he stays at the club, we understand Arsenal maintain a keen interest in the player," Sheth said on Sky Sports News.

"It's thought talks between the clubs continue.

"Monaco's not for sale stance has been seen in some quarters as a way to encourage Arsenal to make a higher offer.

but Holding’s hair transplant was painless
My point being is that say he was to partner xhaka / Ramsey in midfield would they stand much chance vs a midfield like Utd or Chelsea?

Herrera starts for United and Kante/Cesc for Chelsea. This physicality bollocks is so overrated in my opinion. xhaka and Ramsey is physical, but people don't like it.

Strange how Seri rumours pick up after this fades out. Perhaps there is some merit behind the cm theory.

I see what you mean in the comparison, but the truth is that Arsenal have not won the league since they scrapped their physical central midfield for small technical players.

It took Arsène Wenger years to get hold of Lacazette.

His record of signing players recently from the Ligue 1 has been quite poor for his standard.

He was interested in both Lemar and Mbappe a year ago but he wasn't ruthless enough.

Out of all of the young players in this golden generation of youth in France. We opted to go for Yaya Sanogo.
