Pretty sure he just said he prefers playing to watching football. Don't think he said he doesn't like football. Don't even think its possible not to like football and be a top player in a top modern team, too much attention to detail and focus on small margins for someone who isn't interested.
People often use the Assou-Ekotto example but he played for Sp**s who clearly aren't a top team...

His micro errors go unnoticed but he failed to get tight to stop the cross leading to the goal and jumped out of a challenge vs Villa. Others will get the blame a fair bit of danger started from his failures.
