So, how did players in the past survive without agents having that much influence? Have things changed that much? Mans trying to make it as if they’re brokering multimillion pound Nike deals everyday.

“I have no problem with remunerating an agent who makes me a great deal: when Marc Roger and Jean-François Larios brought me Patrick Vieira to Arsenal (in 1996), when he was on the verge of sign at Ajax, I was happy to pay them. On the other hand, when I have to pay an agent because his player extends his contract, I am not convinced that he has done that much.”

Posted this already but Arsène said he’s not convinced that these agents do much in contract renewals. These man do everything in their best interests to secure the bag and then these players realise that they can’t get their dream move and start crying to the media.
I don’t even get what point you’re trying to make now. Agents are necessary for footballers full stop, of course Arsène doesn’t like paying them lol no club does. What about all the players that did get their dream move? Would you say Cedric was stupid for having an agent? Of course not he probably loves Kia after that.

I’ll make it simple for you - my whole point was on the amount of influence that agents have over players, imo they don’t need to think for them.

On your point about Cedric, I guess that’s true but for every player that’s successfully leeching away like him, there’s also a player that we probably haven’t heard of that an agent messed up his deal or they could have been poorly advised like Dennis Schroder or Zaha. Not every player has a shady super agent like Kia Joorabchian who can finesse a deal, so it’s not as clear cut as you’re suggesting.

Anyways our opinions differ, so I’ll just agree to disagree.

Take agents out, then clubs would manipulate players on their own. This like saying lawyers are bad as they influence people and people should deal with police on their own when suspect of crime. Club owners and football directors are way bigger scumbags than agents

That’s a bit extreme. You don’t need to fully remove them though just limit their influence, a bit like what FIFA have planned but I have no confidence in whether that’ll actually work as I had hope in FFP and that went to ****.

Let’s not act like players aren’t getting manipulated now. Speaking as a fan that statement at the bottom is straight BS, they’re all as bad as each other imo. Raul, Edu and Kia are all slimey rats.

You don’t know how much influence an agent has over a player though, everyone’s relationship is different. The agents do what the players want most of the time.

Your point was that players were stupid for taking advice from agents which is a dumb thing to say in itself.

Nah bro. Ngl you were starting to convince me as you were making some good points but I disagree with that.

There’s nothing to suggest that they do as their main objective is to make as much money as possible and get the best deal for their client, that doesn’t mean it’s the best for the players career in terms of success and winning things. An agent could convince his client to sign a long term deal and then a year later, the player gets an offer from an elite club who he can win trophies with but is tied down due to his long term contract.

We need to be ready and waiting outside the gates of Prison with a nice contract when he gets released.

We've had the likes of Ian Wright and Tony Adams thrown in the hole and are two of our most successful players of all time. Third times the charm here.

Edit: Can picture Edu outside HM Prison Lewes now.

Feels like a perfect signing for Newcastle now. I wonder if he's good with a bone saw...

So what you’re saying is players shouldn’t sign contracts and just go whenever they like? That’s some more stupid logic again lol have you been smoking lately?

Even your example is bad cos Suarez coming here would’ve been a bad move he went on to Barca and won a treble and got paid way more money and so did Liverpool.

Mods, I suggest Threadmarks about news of this police case too.

I'm not personally interested in reading all these arguments about the other things, but the case interests me a lot in what really happened, and it will get lost here without Threadmarks.

They should just be wary when getting tied down to a long term deal as the agents priority is to secure himself the bag first and that comes before any career. Yes, would you like me to put you in my spliff? All you need to do is send location and we can settle this beef 🤣

I used Suarez as an example as that easily could have easily been a clusterf*ck from his agent especially with all that release clause and him having to go to the media. He got lucky and secured his moved but I’ve already given you examples when the player doesn’t get his dream move - Zaha. There are many more but I just can’t be asked to search them up.

And we won the Ashes 3-0 that summer the delusional gimp.

Great summer 2013...managed by Big Wengz, chasing players like Suarez and signing players like Özil.

Can't wait for next summer though, Newcastle stripping us of the few quality players we have...yay!
