Never watched him live, but yeah I kind of get the younger Paul Merson vibes as well. Definitely differences in their game but Merson was effortless as well and had a bit of joy in the way he played.

How many players are legitimately exceptional? I believe words like exceptional and world class get thrown around too often. ESR has always been a baller, but I always said he was more of a complementary type of player than the main man on the team. He has too many good attributes to fail at this level, unless he starts to suffer devastating injuries. Good physical tools, fundamentally sound and works hard for the team.

English pundits love hype up thier own players so I'm not surprised by carragher saying ESR best player running with ball in PL. Well Salah and Grealish didn't disappear ffs.

ESR is elegant player and at start of his career i hope the too much praise don't get in to him he very humble and hardworking player so i don't think it'll affect him

Here is the Carragher praise. He is drooling over ESR, saying he will surely get England caps in the future, not just yet though because of the competition.

Also loves how ESR carries the ball so fast and effortlessly and it's a joy to watch.
