I agree!!! I went to Euro 2000 and he was IMHO the player of the tournament. No one else was close. France and Holland were both two levels above Italy, but Italy was minutes away from the championship because of Toldo's brilliance.

I keep wondering about his career.

Yes, that's true. Buffon suffered a broken finger and couldn't play.

But he was good in that year. Like gstew said, he was superb but after Wiltord's equaliser in the last minute he looked pretty shaken.
