We could have got good money for him if we sold him in summer 2019, as he was coming from a very good season for us and was still a decent age.

After we kept him that summer, you feel he was always gonna leave on a free after that.

Hope he does well in France though, good player and a good guy...I still think we should use him going there, as a way to try and buy Dembele from Lyon.

The guy was clearly not at the level of the best we've had leading the line. But he also had worse supply than many/most of them. A serviceable Arsenal career, thanks Laca.

We don't make good signings now though? Partially why the club still relies on Wenger's terrible signings like Laca and Xhaka.
Some Arsenal fans would tell you Ben White for 50m was a steal lmao. Honestly since Arteta and Edu took over we've had more dud transfers than ever before, as much as we get onto Lacazette and Xhaka at least they contributed to the team unlike the guys we had to literally pay off to leave.

Yeah, it’s happening more and more, it’s becoming the norm you can say. Salah might even see out his Liverpool deal.
It's clubs fault as well for putting stupid price tags on players, the Neymar transfer ruined everything but even before then United spendind 90m on Pogba was stupid. City can pay 100m for Grealish when he's worth half that but they don't care about money.

Declan Rice is a good player but for 120m+ he's just not worth it, you'll end up like Zaha and Kane where they spend their best years at a club below their level cos no one wants to pay the asking price.

Yeah in hindsight, when Raul was talking big about selling players with 2 years left that was the best time to cash in on Laca tbh.

We coulda got decent money again when Roma was sniffing around as well. Hopefully the club learn and do more sales like Martinez.

Just make a decision, very few players in the world are irreplaceable. As much as I defended Laca he was extremely replaceable.

Some of the points made above is why I’ve always thought it was strange when people play down the quality of top tier players like Özil, Aubameyang etc but talk up signings like Ben White, Partey and Ramsdale when we significantly overspent on them and even Partey himself has done nothing of note to justify how much we paid for him.

If you look at our recent “big” transfers over the past 10 years or so:

- Pepe 72m
- Aubameyang 57m
- Ben White 50m
- Lacazette 47m
- Partey 45m
- Özil 42m
- Alexis 38m
- Xhaka 35m
- Mustafi 35m
- Ramsdale 30m

We’ve done some really bad business over the past few years, I know some will say that it’s their first season, they need time, it’s a different market now which represents the fees we spent etc but Partey has been here since 2020 and has spent most of his stint at Arsenal either on the sideline or out of form. For me, if you’re spending these sorts of fees on players then you have to get proven talent like we did with Özil, Auba, Alexis etc and reliable players. For clubs like City and Chelsea, they can afford to continuously make errors and get away with it then get rid but with us it’s noticeable and set us back for a few years as we’re not willing to cut our losses straight away.

I know players don’t determine their price tags, that’s why I focus my blame fully on the club as they have to hold full responsibility for the errors here. I’ve said it before but our analytics team/talent ID are so far behind other clubs, it’s not only our big transfers that we’ve made errors with but even the loan signings/freebies. David Luiz, Ceballos, Denis Suarez, Lichtsteiner, Willian, Mari when instead there were better players, the likes of Thiago Silva (who I said would have given us something but A-M said he was finished), Perisic (same as the above), Luis Suarez etc, who could have contributed a lot more and that were available at roughly the same time.

"Laca was an FA Cup winner with us in 2020, was in our FA Community Shield winning team in 2017 and was voted the Arsenal Player of the Season for 2018/19"

That'll do Arsenal, that'll do...
