Can't say it causes any sadness. Of course it's a shame to lose talented players and many of us had high hopes for him. But if he's not willing to put the boot down and work a little harder to get the chance then so be it. Players don't get to play in the starting eleven without making the extra effort. And to be honest he would play if he was better. How come players like Cesc, Reyes, Clichy, Van Persie et al gets to play regurarly? Yes, because they are good enough. Bentley isn't good enough.

What really shows that is when you look at the clubs interested in signing him: West Ham, Crystal Palace and Norwich. Says quite a lot doesn't it?

Now, bring in a GK! Please!

I applaud Bentley for asking a transfer. At 21yrs he has to play regularly

As this is not happening at Arsenal. It’s about time players stood up against Wenger’s English youth policy.

Wenger needs to strengthen our squad fast otherwise we are in trouble.

You're a tit. Read your own posts. Everyone knows you're a tit.

Bentley wouldn't have got a kick past the league cup this season. He's not a loss, long or short term.

So far the only English that have gone on to bigger and better things than Arsenal are......0!!!

Thats right 0 so far, the only one that comes close is Upson but he wouldn't even get a sniff of a call up in the England side when Rio, Sol, Terry, Woodgate, King etc are all fit. In fact Upson's another one that wanted to leave because of lack of first team opportunites because Cygan was in front of him and wasn't patient enough to wait for his chance. Of course Cygan has now taken a step down the order after the emergence of Senderos whom took his chances when called upon.

Wenger knows best, there's so much talent ahead of Bentley, he won't be missed in the short term. I think he has the potential to be very good, but that's it. He'll do well on a smaller team like Upson, but I don't think he's going to be an oustanding player in the future. Pennant was the only English youngster Arsène's let go who actually had Arsenal quality, and he let him go for non-footballing reasons. Look at all the others that have gone before: Upson, Thomas, Ricketts, Halls, Hughes. Wenger's rarely proven wrong when selling players, foreign or english.

If he were good enough Wenger would have rejected it, sat him down and told him he has big plans for the player.

I'm more disappointed in Bentley for giving up and wanting to move on instead of staying here, fighting for a spot, and showing Wenger that he does belong in the squad and deserves to get playing time.

I find it quite dazzlingly perverse that someone like Pascal Cygan, no matter how slow and crap and ponderous he is and no matter how many goals he costs us and no matter how shaky the rest of the team look when he's playing, continues to pick up 15-20 appearances a season three years after signing for us, while David Bentley has to make do with little five minute scraps thrown at him at the end of the season like last night's leftovers.

If Wenger doesn't think Bentley deserves a place ahead of RVP, Reyes (who gets a thousand year contract extension the same summer that Bentley leaves, despite spending much of last season doing **** all with that dumb-ass smile on his face), Pires, etc, fine, but please don't bullshit us year after year about how good the academy graduates are. I remember the end of the 2003 season when we were told about Pennant, Garry, Hoyte, Bentley etc - players who it is now apparent he has no serious intention of ever integrating into the first team. Before you say Hoyte still has a chance, does he really? Isn't it far more likely that he'll get the odd appearance now and then before being farmed out on loan to some nowhere team where he will learn nothing before eventually returning and being released?

If he's not good enough and you want some pre-pubescent running dog from the Ivory Coast instead, ok, but go easy with the hype. How many times has Wenger described Bentley as "technically brilliant", etc?

relax. wenger was just trying to get their confidence up by being complimentary, he wasnt making any promises to the player or to the supporters. bentley didnt exactly set norwich alight, and the teams who have expressed an interest in him are all going to fight relegation this season.

as things turned out, he wasnt good enough to play here. most players arent. dont make it into an english v. foreigner thing, youre smarter than that.

Well, we all hope he remains. He's not first team material but he's COVER. Squad depth helps a lot in a 60 game season. The reason why Chelski is rated by many to finish as Champions is cos of squad depth. Injury to key players would be a hassle for them but not necessarilya problem.

For us to get an injury to players like Gilberto Senderos Henry (*please god NO!) would devastate our team.

Arsenal Quotes

Arsenal have always been the club of the people, the streets. Arsenal was one of the first clubs to really have black players, so it did represent the mass of the UK and how London is. I hope people at the club know that and who are they playing for.
